MAEOP Administrative Office Professional of the Year


The Maryland Association of Educational Office Professionals (MAEOP) is now accepting nominations for the 2016 Administrative Office Professional of the Year Award. To nominate a deserving office professional, complete and submit the attached application. Nominees must be a current member of MAEOP. Judges selected by MAEOP will review the nominations and make their selection based on the degree to which the candidate exhibits the qualities of an excellent office professional, including: professional activity, personnel rating over the past five years, written recommendations, professional growth and in-service training, recommendation/reason for nomination from sponsor, and membership in professional associations. Candidates who have been nominated must submit the application by Tuesday, June 30, 2016, to be considered for the award. The winner will be recognized during the Maryland Association of Educational Professionals annual conference in October 2016. MAEOP candidates for this award must:

  • Be a current member of MAEOP
  • Be currently employed as an educational office employee whether that position be as secretary, clerk, bookkeeper, etc.
  • Have been employed as an educational office employee for a minimum of five years.
  • Be employed in an educational institution, agency or office in either a private or public school system, institution of higher learning, or educational office in federal, state or local government.

MAEOP Administrator of the Year

Candidates for this award must:

  • Be currently employed as an educational administrator whether this be in the capacity of principal, assistant principal, superintendent, assistant superintendent, department head, headmaster, or a comparable management position in educational administration. If in doubt as to whetherthe proposed candidate meets the criteria of administrator, contact the Awards Committee for clarification.
  • Have been employed in the capacity of educational administrator for a minimum of five years.
  • Be a member of the national educational association which represents their professional occupation. For example, a superintendent would belong to the American Association of School Administrators; an elementary principal would belong to the National Association of Elementary School Principals; and a candidate involved in curriculum development might belong to the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

Leon B. Pennington Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is designed to assist students who wish to continue their education. If the recipient of the Leon B. Pennington Memorial Scholarship is pursuing a career in education, he or she will automatically be entered as a candidate for the NAEOP Marion T. Wood Scholarship, which is valued at $500.

Candidates may be sponsored only by an affiliated association or member of the MAEOP. The dues of the sponsoring affiliated association or member must be paid for the current year.
